Well I was no more than a sapling

When I found myself unpacking
At auntie’s house in the Big Apple to the north

Too long were the country days
Needed a little change of pace
Bustle, bright lights, and subways
City folk they know a better way for sure

Surrounded by the city folk
I’d never felt that loneliness before

Then I saw that rainbow fly
Right back home across the sky
And I had to wonder why
I left the home made back there just for me

When I saw that rainbow hue
As it flew across the blue
I confess I sat and thought
How can I be something I'm not?
There’s a home back there that’s waiting just for me

So the rainbow led me back
And I dropped the city act
For the simple life and fact
That home was with my pack here on the farm

Well the rainbow stuck around
And I stuck to the ground
Til I looked up and finally found
The missing piece that settled down my heart

That rainbow swooped and soared around
Loop-de-loopin' through the clouds
And I had to wonder how
I'd missed the home made right here just for me

When I saw that rainbow hue
As it streaked across the blue
I felt such a warmth inside
Like this might just be alright
There’s a home right here that’s waitin' just for me

Now the autumn’s come
And side by side we’re gonna run
Just like when we were young
Maybe a mite bit slower every time

I could beat it to the end
But sometimes I let it win
Look around and take it in
And let it lead me homeward one more time

Even when the wind is cold
And even though I’m growing old
I still feel like a pot o’ gold
Every time the rainbow lands right next to me

Cause when that rainbow flies
My belly gets those butterflies
